ASTES General Assembly Reviews 2018 Achievements and Sets Course for 2019 Congress

On October 26, 2018 at 15:00, the Albanian Society for Trauma and Emergency Surgery (ASTES) convened its General Assembly in Ohrid, Macedonia, immediately following the resounding success of the 2nd Annual Albanian Congress of Trauma and Emergency Surgery. Under the leadership of our President, Mr. Agron Dogjani, the meeting brought together the full executive board and engaged members to reflect on the past year’s strides and chart the path forward.

1. Reflecting on ASTES Activity (ACTES 2017–2018)
The assembly opened with a comprehensive evaluation of ASTES’ initiatives since the 1st Annual Congress in 2017. Members praised the expanding reach of our workshops, training modules, and international collaborations. Highlights included:

  • Growth in membership and trainee participation
  • Successful hands-on courses in emergency airway management and hemorrhage control
  • Establishment of new research collaborations with regional trauma centers

These achievements underscore ASTES’ commitment to elevating trauma and emergency surgery standards across Albania and the Balkans.

2. Strengthening our Leadership and Structure
To ensure continued growth, the Assembly approved updates to our executive and organizational structures. Key changes include:

  • Introduction of specialized committees for Education, Research, and International Relations
  • Revised bylaws to streamline decision-making and improve communication between the board and general membership
  • Enhanced roles for regional representatives to foster local training events

These adjustments will empower ASTES to respond more dynamically to emerging educational needs and to broaden our impact.

Transparency remains a cornerstone of our society. The Treasurer presented the annual financial report, detailing revenue sources—from membership dues and sponsorships—to expenditures on congress logistics, workshop materials, and scholarship grants. The Assembly unanimously approved the report, congratulating the finance team on maintaining a healthy balance and prudent stewardship of resources.

4. Looking Ahead to ACTES 2019
